By the end of this activity, you will be able to use comparative and superlative adjectives to describe and compare people, animals, places, and things.

1 Activity 1. Grammar Practice 📚

Go to the Grammar Practice for Pre-Intermediate book in the Mediateca, classification ICG1-G/1. Find pages 28 and 29, get a copy of both pages, read the instructions carefully and complete the exercises.

Focus: Comparative and superlative adjectives.

Listen to the audio and answer the following questions:

1. Which is the best place for pizza according to Daisy?

2. Why does she consider it the best?

5. What are they going to eat?

Tip: Listen twice. The first time, try to understand the general idea. The second time, listen for specific information.

Part A. Complete the sentences

Complete the sentences with the correct comparative or superlative form of the adjective in parentheses.

1. A cheetah is than a horse. (fast)

2. The elephant is one of the animals in the world. (large)

3. English is for me than Korean. (easy)

4. Mexico City is than my hometown. (big)

5. This is the movie I have ever watched. (interesting)

Part B. Write about three places

Choose three places you know or would like to visit.

Examples:

Mexico City
Cancun
New York
London
Paris

Write five sentences comparing the places. Use at least:

3 comparative adjectives
2 superlative adjectives

Example:

Mexico City is bigger than Cancún.

Cancún is more beautiful than Mexico City for me.

Part C. Speaking 🗣️

Then answer this question:

Which of the three places would you like to visit? Why?

Try to use at least one comparative and one superlative in your answer.

Example:

I would like to visit Paris because it is more romantic than the other places. I think it is the most beautiful city of the three.
